Whether this is your first Splendour in the Grass or you’re a seasoned Splendour professional, we’ve got all the inside scoop on how to take your Splendour weekend to the next level! Go Byron has been providing transport to Splendour in the Grass since the event’s inception in 2001. We’ve seen plenty of people who have faced a full festival weekend. Some have crashed and burned while others have come out winners and we’ve learned the tricks that separate the two.
1). Dress to express but layer, layer, layer!
Let’s be honest Splendour in the Grass is almost as much about the fashion as it is about the music. It’s a place where you can be the freakiest, most fashion fierce version of yourself. I mean, where else can a grown man wear head to toe florescent lycra with a matching beard full of eco glitter and not get a second look? So of course be your best self and wear something that expresses your inner most fantasies but unless you want to have to call a cab early, pair that lycra with a woolly jumper, a scarf, a hat and some gloves. There were a record number of hypothermia cases at Byron Hospital during last year’s festival due to some people’s failure to plan ahead. No need to carry around your gear all day, Splendour has lockers for hire.

2) Footwear is everything!
No one has ever survived a Splendour weekend wearing uncomfortable shoes. If we had a dollar for every time we’ve heard our Splendour passengers say ‘Oh my god my feet are killing me!’ we’d be able to retire and buy a Thor sized mansion! Gum boots are great for keeping the mud off but they’re heavy and not super comfortable to walk around it. We’d highly suggest a comfy pair of boots (if you can hike in them, then they’ll be worthy of trekking up the hill to the amphitheatre).
3) Eating is SO not cheating
Just like any street market, there are good food options and some that leave you feeling a bit dodgy. Keep yourself feeling rad and raring to go by eating at some of our recommended food vendors. Byron Bay Organic Donuts are an iconic Byron Bay staple. Their donuts are about the size of a dinner plate and are both soft and crunchy, covered in the perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar. The Wiener Haus is a good honest tongue in cheek food stall that sells authentic German Kranskies loaded with all kinds of gourmet toppings. They will be located in the main food section of the campgrounds. As they say “Just look for the giant WIENER sign”. If you have food intolerances or just like to keep it clean we suggest heading over to the Global Village area. They usually have plenty of allergy friendly and vegan options to choose from.
4) Go Byron shuttles are your best friend
We may seem a bit biased here but we’ve also had 18 years experience running Splendour shuttles. Whether you’re camping on site or staying nearby, our shuttles are the cheapest and most reliable option to get you to & from the festival. Go Byron will be running airport shuttles to the festival all weekend from Ballina and Gold Coast airports. Or you can grab yourself a door-to-door shuttle from your luxe accomodation in Byron Bay to the festival each day. Our shuttles are fully insured and heated for those late night and early morning rides. Our drivers are experienced and keen to get everyone on-board and off to their destination without any fuss or wait time.
5) Explore Byron Bay
While there is almost everything you could ever need at Splendour in The Grass, Byron Bay and the surrounding towns are full of magic and wonder that you just can’t see anywhere else in the world. Set aside a bit of time to get out of the Splendour bubble and explore the Byron Shire. Go Byron have a bunch of great tours you can take advantage of like chasing waterfalls at Killen Falls, filling up on locally grown goodness at the local farmer’s markets or taking in a brewery and distillery tour with your splendour buddies.
From the Go Byron team, we wish you all a safe and happy Splendour weekend! Remember to look out for your mates and you can always count on us to get you home safe.
