Go Byron is the official sponsor of the DSAA ‘Hands On Day’ happening in Byron Bay on Saturday March 16th 2019. This event will be held at Clarke’s Beach and will be the last event of the DSAA’s season. This is the day for all members of the community to give back to the disabled community who need a helping hand to enjoy what the rest of us take for granted – a safe and enjoyable day at the beach.
You can get involved by coming along on the day and volunteering or simply cheering on the participants. DSAA aim to ‘put a smile on your dial’ whether you’re a volunteer, a participant or a spectator. All volunteers are asked to arrive and register at 9am. There’s plenty to do to help out and plenty of fun to be shared so bring some mates along for a fun day in the sun.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in the Hands On Day, registration for participants starts at 10am. This is a free event for all ages. Rash vests, sunscreen, water, fruit and lunch are all supplied by DSAA. The Hands On Surfing Morning will be followed with a social lunch and presentation for the surfers.
Disabled Surfers Association Australia INC
The Disabled Surfers Association was established in 1986 by Gary Blaschke after a motorcycle accident which he lost his knee cap and under went extensive rehabilitation. Gary saw a void that needed to be filled as over the years, many surfers with disabilities have unfortunately, been loners with no one to help them get back into the water.
From asthmatics to joint injuries to paraplegic, many members have found friendship, support and have renewed their interest in surfing. Gary’s vision quickly extended to all classes of disabilities, as it is today. A total voluntary organisation, which sets world’s best practice for Disabled Surfers. DSAA would like to thank everyone who has so kindly helped over the season and they look forward to the next season starting in October at Evans Head.
